Lausanne, a really nice city next to Lake Leman
(Genfer See, Lac Leman). It has a lot of old buildings, a nice lakefront and
is in the hills. Well, you could call that mountains. There is a difference
of altitude of about 400 m. That is quite a lot and you recognize that when
you do sightseeing with your bike. Furthermore Lausanne was a place of the winter
olympic games.

Werner had to do some stuff for uni (he took part on a French
language course) and so I had time to watch around town. I also need to organize
some really necessary stuff if I want to go further over the alps. I planed
to cross a pass on 2500 m, therefore I should change my gears, I had an 54-39
in the front and a 11-23 in the back, for the biking guys of you. I had some
trouble with that even with the small hills. In town I got an 12-28. That made
a big difference. With the first gear transmission ratio my wheel turned 39/23=1.7
for each padel turn. With the one I got it was only 39/28=1.4, that makes life
much easier.
searching for a bike shop
It wasn't such easy to find a bike shop, especially
a bike shop which has the stuff I need and wasn't beyond price. The first shop
I went into wanted about 130 swiss francs (that is really ridiculous), that
is about 80€. I went into four shops, in the last one I got a good price
which was about 50€ (half of my travel money :-) ).

After I have managed that I got a inlet for my sleeping bag,
a really useful thing. Tanja got that when she visited me in NZ, so I knew about
it. Finally I had some more time to go through town.

At about 12 am I went back to Werner's place. He is living
outside of Lausanne, in Echandens, a really nice suburb. Next to his house are
nice wine yards and a castle.
