It was time to take a course. Since we do quite a bit of touring we signed up for an avalanche course. There was one theoretical session in Vancouver on thursday night. Saturday and Sunday took place in Whistler. Surprisingly we had good weather.
early in the morning, skinning uphill

Kerstin doing a beacon search (beacon on wikipedia)
continuing to go into the backcountry of Whistler
We had to dig a snow pit to find out about the snow layering and its stabilities.

Seppel cutting the snow with a snow saw

breaking off snow blocks on the weak layers

We knew quite a few things before but it was good to refresh it and to learn from a professional. The course was offered by Canada west Mountain School. Now we have to use our knowledge and enjoy the skiing.
