Ski holidays in Grassau
We got up early (vacation time is not a kindergeburstag, it is a serious business) and drove towards Grassau just south of Munich.
Being back on the Autobahn, a beamer passes us with probably 180.
Grassau is in the German part of the alps. The mountains aren't super high but good enough for a decent vacation. The picture is taken from my parents apartment. My mom told me that we stayed at the house on the picture about 20 years, perhaps even 25 years ago for vacation, quite funny.
My dad and me. We both wear puffy jackets, I wear the north american style and my dad wears the bavarian style. You decide which one looks better.
We continued on to go skiing at Steinplatte which is about 15 min. away from Grassau. First we had to get tickets, what a gong show.
Finally, after about 1 hour we were on our skis.
We also saw some illegal immigrants who wanted to flee Germany and go to Austria.
The ski resort. There is a massive chair lift, 8 people fit in
Can you count the heads, 8, HUGE. I think the bloody thing has even seat heating.
People from all over the world ski in Europe, New Zealand, Asia and Canada.
Some people are ready for everything.
Kerstin on the groomers, in the back you can see Chiemsee.
The Wilder Kaiser, The Wild Emperor, the big mountain on the right side.
We went for lunch at a typical hut, pretty cool to be back in Europe, so much better than the whistler round house. It just has atmosphere.
Germknödel, yeast dumpling filled with plum sauce, toped with poppy seeds and vanilla sauce.
Hefeweizen for the boys.
Good times.
The inside of the hut.
Back in the chairlift.
One of my favourite pictures.
It was cold.
Enjoying the sun.
Later on we drove through Reit im Winkel, here you can see a typical Mai Baum, Maypole: Maypole on wikipedia
On the way home we drove by a Night Christmas Market. It takes place only once a year and it is good fun. We went there 2 years ago with Laurene and Werner.
Fire, always exiting for guys.
It was pretty hot.
There was even an ice rink.
Seppel's best buddy from Canada came by and said hello, luckily Jumbo did not burn his nose as Seppel did..
Thanks Peter and Feli for letting us stay at your place.
