Chilcotins

by Victor Gin ( too busy to update our blog so I just copy past like back in high school)

An ordinary weekend - a not so ordinary camping/biking trip!

Assuming the role of German-Tour-Bus-Driver - we loaded up the truck and headed out of town up into the Chilcotins - Just north of Pemberton, which is north of Whistler, which is north of Vancouver etc..

View down into Pemberton Valley - looking south - quite a bit of altitude up the FSR Road.

The German Tour Bus - complete with camping supplies, bikes and Sebastian, Kerstin and Caro :)

View back down the road.

First glimpse at some of the alpine meadows, and red rock peaks.

Water Courses.

Carpenter Lake - running very very low - We had a crappy winter, so not a lot of storage in this artificial lake.

I later found out that this lake is part of a MASSIVE BC HYDRO power scheme dating back to the 1920's - Bridge River Project - more geeking our later ;)

a

Pretending to be a redneck, or urban cowboy ;) - it's Stampede next month!

a

More Carpenter Lake - Amazing Greenery.

a

Seppel trying to commit suicide - seriously, it was about a 150m drop off this loose scree!. Can't control the german tourist bug.

a

Further down the lake - You can see some of the black trees from the wild bush fires about 3 weeks ago - we drove through some of the affected areas.

Black Trees - parched ground.

a

Heading up towards Tyax Lake - Fully Loaded.

a

Camp Spot - Friburg.

a

Sebastian's trusty Hardtail - busting chains three times over.

a

Stream Crossing.

Loading up the truck with some firewood for the evenings festivities. :)

Don't mess with the Germans....

a

.. they come from the Westside.. :)

a

Back at camp - well fed, well lubricated for the evening..

a

A very toasty fire..

a

Kerstin and Caro - by moonlight.

a

Sebastian - practicing...:)

benz

.. practicing the classic German courting ritual ;) - just pop the question.. :)

a

Peaks.

a

Head of Carpenter Lake - complete with spillway to Bridge River.

a

Spillway

a

. leading into an impressive canyon - The landscapes change sooo fast along the drive to Lillooet.

a

The Germans - taking in the scenery.

a

Looking down - very far down.

a

The confluence of the Bridge River, to the Fraser River - at Lillooet.

a

Yep - just when you thought it couldn't get more geeky...

a

Buckets. mmm buckets.

a

even Seppel looks half impressed!

a

Profile View - Canal Bridge - I estimated it was about 7-8m wide by about 3-4m deep. Apparently - 50 ft of head, and a generating capacity of 42 MW! (geek alert)

a

Downstream abutment is a little leaky - not bad considering the age - maybe we should advise BCH. :)

a

We are planning a floatplane trip into the middle of the chils this summer - and get into some more epic, alpine singletrack goodness. and more Bear Territory

Will keep ya posted!

Peace, love and unity :)

Here are some pics of Seppel: Victor at the camp fire, not a happy man!

a

Good morning Marmot!
