Driving through Arizona towards the Monument Valley in Utah
We left Grand Canyon and had to drive towards Monument Valley. It was a long drive and as soon as we got below 6000 feet it got damn hot!
We came by this bridge. It almost looks like it is a mirror image but it isn't. Well, in some way it is.The old bridge on the left was too small and not strong enough for the heavy traffic and the big trucks so there was need for a bigger structure. Since it should look similar to the existing one, that came out: left side new and right side old:
The Colorado river under the bridge.
A little bit of information about the first bridge and the construction. Impressive that it was build as a cantilever but I guess with that height it would have been difficult to build a falsework underneath (sorry for so much engineering talk).
A comparison with the new bridge.
We continued and arrived late at the Monument Valley to enjoy the sunset.
The next morning we had a bit more time to enjoy those towers.
