Lichterfest Offenbach - Festival of Candels in Offenbach

Offenbach used to be a workers men city. There wasn't much culture other than hard labour and soccer. Since the heavy duty industrie died ages ago in Germany Offenbach went through a lot of changes. First there was a huge unemployment rate which caused a lot of different problems. In the last 10 years for whatever reason something changed in Offenbach to the positive way. Perhaps it has something to do with the HfG (Hochschule fuer Gestaltung - University of Design) which came to Offenbach around this time. Perhaps it has something to do with the mulit cultural society based in Offenbach. It might also be that living in Frankfurt is too expensive and too "snoby" for people so they move to Offenbach to have a different flair than cooperations, banks and money. Offenbach didn't become the capital of arts but it is on a good way. This is nice to see after being away for so long. Part of this change is the Lichterfest celebrated in downtown Offenbach. It started about 3 or 4 years ago. All sorts of clubs and communities meet in the downtown park and put up symbols of their logo with candels. Later at night the Symphonie Ochestra from Frankfurt is playing together with a rock band in an open air theater. We went their with my parents to check it out. Next time I have to bring a tripod!
