Natural
Bridges Monument Park
and Moab S(l)ick Rock
We woke up early in the morning since there were more bridges to see. It is pretty impressive what the US has to offer in terms of National Parks. We have visited only so much and every place (well, pretty much every place :-)) is different and so unique!
Pretty good engineering done by someone!
Took probably a couple of years to build, no deficiencies noted by the inspector even so there was no rebar used.
Or a bit more slender ...
Would love to walk across but it is expensive, I think around 2500 bucks or so :-).
Not much meat Arndt?
Don't know what that is but thought it looked kind of funny.
And another one
Okay, we wanted to go skiing but snow was kind of ... . Enough, now the shreddin starts. I think once we go home I am going to buy / build one of those.
Or I might stay a bit longer in North America and work here? Just kidding mum.
We rented bikes for the next day but since the guy was nice he gave it to us at 5 pm the night before and we went onto the practice loop. Oh, for those who don't know what Moab and Slick Rock means in terms of Mountain Biking. I think it is (perhaps was) one of the most famous spots to ride. Around 15 years ago when I started riding in the Taunus I bought those bike magazines (which talked about Moab). Everybody was wearing lycra and had 150 mm stems. There were always nice pics in those magazines (not much has changed) and at least one of the pics was from Moab. Sometimes there was a whole story about it. At the time I probably didn't know exactly where Moab is but it looked pretty cool and I knew I want to ride there once. Well, 15 years later it happened and I must say: It is pretty SICK. Oh, perhaps an explanation what makes it so special. Well, normally you ride on dirt, gravel, rocks, wood those days in the shore. Well, one of the tricky parts of mountain biking is always the traction. So here comes Moab with the so called Slick Rock. It is sandstone with perfect traction. It is like riding on sanding paper, no slipping. Well, enough talking, scroll down and enjoy with me!
Kerstin climbing up the hill. She always says she doesn't know how to bike, kind of funny, Slick Rock (that is actually the name of the trail) is the hardest trail in the pamphlet we got in the visitor centre in Moab. We also passed a few people, some of them with 4000 $ + bikes, good job Kerstin, you are a shredder, Victor is jealous!
Pretty cool with the snow in the back.
That's how the pics looked kind of back in the day, well, full on lycra and probably a better rider.
Oh yeah!
Now just a few more pics.
Later on at the camp ground. Bike, PBR, knife (Vic, I used it to split wood actually) and a fire. What else do you want.
The camp grounds are pretty amazing and cheap. We paid 10 bucks per night for the two of us. Well, there are only pit toilets and no running water but we have now about 4 big water canisters which we always fill up so that is fine. And the best thing is: It is warm!
