Moab Slick Rock II and Porcupine Rim Trail
Today we had a full day on the bikes. You always wanted to know why people ride bikes in Moab, read below.
More Slick Rock pictures.
As I mentioned before, super traction on that stuff.
That you don't get lost there is white paint on the sand stone as a kind of marker.
Can you see that small black dot on top of the rock? That is Kerstin.
We talked to locals and they said the skitouring in those mountains is pretty good, Moab wouldn't be a bad place to live.
You wonder what that thing is on my helmet? It is a helmet camera. I think I shot about 2 hours of footage today. Since I don't want to bother you with boring stuff (I probably put too many pics up already) I will be editing a movie next winter. On another note: I am taller than Kerstin so no more stupid questions! Actually I am by 2 cm.
More shredding, well, not really shredding so but still pretty wicked.
There were a lot of people on the trail, most of them were pretty nice people from all over the US. Funny thing so the bigger / better / more expensive the bike was the more show off attitude they had. Not to mention that they didn't know how to ride.
Still going strong, Kerstin going uphill, I think she was tired at the end and her butt hurt.
Downhill action!
Here is a movie of the Riding, it is a short one, limited time for editing on vacation, has to wait till next year :-).
Later on I did another trail called Porcupine Rim Trail. It goes around a canyon. Kerstin dropped me off at the end of a gravel road, I had to climb another 900 ft (300m) and got 3000 ft (1000m) downhill in.
There was still a bit of snow, not too bad so. Had to walk through the snow only for 15 min. or so.
Looking down into the canyon.
The La Sal Mountains, should we get our skiing gear for tomorrow?
I didn't go too close to the edge since I am afraid of heights.
From now on only single trail! The track before was kind of 4x4 but actually not too wide. I guess you could go there with an atv but not with a truck so it was still pretty good for biking.
The trail was going into the canyon of the Colorado River.
Super Sick!
Kerstin picked me up at the end of the trail, thanks Kerstin! It was a pretty cool ride, 14 miles, it took me about 2:45h. Later on we had a shower in town and dinner and a fire at our camp and watched the stars ...
... and the fire.
