Wapta Traverse

To finish our ski trip off we thought we do something special. The Wapta Ski Traverse. It is a ski traverse which goes over the Wapta Ice Field. There are 4 huts and you can go from hut to hut. The huts are pretty nice equipped with sleeping pads and stoves so you don't have to carry too much, only food and a sleeping bag. Our plan was to go out for 6 nights / 7 days, this changed a bit later on ...

First we had to cross the Peyto Lake, Kerstin going ahead.

The lake turned into a creek.

The snow turned into water so we had to take the skis off.

Finally we could put some skis on, big mountains in the back ground. A bit bigger than on the coast.

We couldn't ski for too long before we had to boot pack up the moraine.

Finally we got closer to the glacier.

Before we went onto the glacier we roped up.

The hut is in sight.

It was a beautiful day so. After we arrived we relaxed in front of the hut.

The hut is pretty well designed. The big windows make it really warm inside. There is no additional heating.

We had a nice sunset.
