Tramping down the Taipo Valley
All of us early in the morning in front of Julia Hut: Judith, Naomi, Kerstin and me.
That was the old Julia hut, a typical New Zealand back country hut.
More swing bridges were on today.
View back from where we came from.
Pretty long span.
Shop talk is on, pretty sure you can put more on, perhaps fatigue?
We stopped for lunch at the Mid Taipo Hut, what a nice day.
The new adidas tramping boot, also called duct tape, or Panzer Klebeband how we call it in Germany. Perhaps new shoes for Christmas mum?
What a beautiful meadow.
Just before we would get to the hut we had to climb up that steep slope to reach another cable way to cross the river. I tried to cross the river by walking through but only got half way so we decided to climb up those extra 150 meters.
Excitement or fear, looks more like excitement, good job Judith!
That's the view you get from the cable way.
Just in case you want to do it on your own, looks pretty hard.
Every item has its own number so the DOC (Department of Conservation) can keep track of it, pretty good.
On the other side ...
It was a long day again, I think it took us about 9 hours or so, probably also
since we used the cableway which takes quite a bit longer than the river walk
through. It was a good decision to take it so. Later on two other pretty strong
looking guys arrived at the hut and they tried to cross the river without the
cableway. They went for a swim... All their gear was wet and heavy, I couldn't
lift up their backpack. It happens fast that you underestimate the power of
mother nature, especially water.
