Sunshine coast

We left Vancouver for a nice weekend trip. Our aim, sunshine coast. As the name says there should be a lot of sun (and there was a lot of sun). We had to catch the ferry from the Horseshoe Bay Terminal to Langdale. The night before we went to a flat warming party and so we were a little bit late. We finally arrived at the ferry terminal at 10:30am and it was quite busy. The ferry should leave at 11am but didn't leave until 12am, well, the next day we would found out that the normal ferry broke down. At the moment there is an old ferry running. Due to the waiting Kerstin got a sunburn on her knees while waiting in the car.

After a 40 min. ferry ride we arrived in Langdale which is 6km away from Gibson (the biggest city on the sunshine coast). After driving off the ferry we were cruising along the coast with open windows, the summer is coming. It was close to 30°.

along the coast

after a while we stopped at a nice beach and were just lying in the sun. we found a nice bay, there was no wind.

After our rest on the beach we continued our trip towards Pender Harbour. It is also called Madeira Park. Madeira is an Island in Europe but it is also an area on the sunshine coast. The reason therefore is the first settler, he was a Portuguese from Madeira.

We found a place to stay for $70. The hotel wasn't amazing but it had a nice view.

It was still nice outside and so we decided to go away and drive around Garden Bay.

we went out for dinner and had some fish, well, what else should you eat on the coast

on the next morning we drove further north to Egmont and Skookumchuck trail.

Here is some information about the skookumchuck rapids:
On a three-metre tide change, 200 billion gallons of water flow through the Skookumchuck, which connects Sechelt Inlet to Jervis Inlet. It is one of the greatest natural shows in British Columbia and occurs twice daily in Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park in Egmont at the north end of the Sechelt Peninsula on the Sunshine Coast ...       more

the whole inlet flows out through a narrow neck, this causes the rapids

here is a movie of the rapid

after hiking back to the car we drove towards the ferry. on the way we stopped on the ruby lake and went for a swim.

we arrived at the ferry terminal at 5pm, we could get on the 6:40pm ferry and had to wait till 9pm. it was a really nice trip.
