driving to the snow: silverstar

we had a long weekend (remembrance day) and drove to silverstar. silverstar is a small resort in the Kootenays. here is a quote of their web page:

"You can easily fall in love with Silver Star’s fairytale village. Inspired by a typical nineteenth century British Columbian mining town era with Victorian architecture, this town is a true winter wonderland. Brightly coloured store fronts and boarded sidewalks provide a unique ambiance that radiates fun, enthusiasm and excitement for the whole family."

where it is

that is silverstar, a really nice village

silverstar is about 500 km away. by the time we arrived in silverstar the day was almost over. the next morning we went for a hike.

the downhill runs were closed but we brought our snow boards so we build a kicker

kerstin jumping over our kicker

seppel riding in the snow

the first jump of the season

later on in the youth hostel

after warming up in the youth hostel we went back outside to the tube park. i always thought that tube park is for boring people when i saw it in whistler but it is quite fun. the tube park was also not open but andrew's friend (also called andrew) from new zealand works in silverstar and is the manager of the tube park so we go a chance to test it out.

kerstin going down the hill on a tube and spinning

going down a steeper part

seppel

andrew (the tube park manager) and his work mate. coming back from a 8 hour work day. they have to keep the ice rink free from snow (and it snowed a lot).

later on we went to a pub to have some food, seppel and andrew (our flatmate)

silverstar is a really nice village, no cars, snow on the road, remembers me off zermatt

next day, first powder run of the season
