got sunburned

20.9.03    Aosta - Pavia

My aim was today to reach Pavia, that was quite far away. After a while I left the alps and came to the flat area (pretty boring). I passed a view towns, rode along corn fields and got sunburned. Well, the weather was really nice and I was sitting for a long time on my bike so that is obvious that that would happen.

Suddenly I could hear Italian. I turned around a saw to bikers. We tried to talk but that didn't work out (I don't know any Italian and they couldn't speak english or german). Anyway, we had good fun. They gave me wind shadow, I was quite happy about that. It was good to meet someone, especially if they make you to ride with a speed of about 30 km's. After 40 km's they left and I was alone again, kind of boring.

I got really tired, I reached another town and got some food. I sat down on a bench and relaxed for a few minutes. I had a look on my map but there was no Pavia on. The problem was that I had only a map of swiss, it ended just south of Milano so I couldn't estimate how far away was Pavia. I asked a few people and they told me something about 30. When I saw a sign with 60 I was depressed.

I reached Pavia just before sunset. I hadn't a clue where the uni is, I thought that shouldn't be so difficult. I was wrong with that thoughts. There was not even one sign saying where uni is. I was damn lucky that I met two nice guys on there bikes. First they asked me something in Italian, I couldn't understand much (I couldn't understand anything). We managed to speak english and then we recognized that we are both from germany, so we could speak german. They were quite impressed what I did (coming down from Col du Bernardo in one day, 230 km's). We had a chat and than they showed me the way to uni. Well, a problem was that Pavia is famous for its university and so there is not only one uni but we managed to get where I want to.

Thanks a lot, you were awesome

I went to the campus and had a look around. It wasn't the easiest thing to find Didier but it worked out.
