Wedgemount Lake
I always wanted to go there but somehow we never had time. Perhaps we also didn't wanted to hike up 1200m in elevation. Anyway, we packed our gear on Friday and left Saturday morning at around 8:30. Since it was a long weekend we could spend a whole day in the alpine.
A map of the area, Whistler on the south - west. Wedgemount Lake is about 10 km away from Whistler.

You don't see that too often, 1200 m elevation gain!
An aerial picture of the area, the trail head is pretty much at the highway 99 sign, you hike up the drainage of the lake.

And the steep hiking started, Kerstin trying to find a way up.
It took us about 3 hours for the 7km, it wasn't as bad as I thought even we had quite heavy back packs: Tent, down jacket, climbing gear, rope, pickets, axe, stove ... . Hiking in Canada is a bit different than in Europe.
Our tent platform and the lake in the back ground.
We put our down jackets on and made some tea, it wasn't warm up there on 2000m and it should get even colder.
While Kerstin went for a nap Seppel took care of the household.
.
We didn't do much more for the rest of the day, we checked out the area a bit around the camp. Later on we cooked dinner in the hut. When we left the hut we met an Eskimo (Kerstin).
And we went to bed, packed into our warm sleeping bags and down jackets.
When we woke up next morning the landscape looked like this, winter isn't far away. Well, it is end of August.
Kerstin was still sleeping so I went around and took a couple of pics.
View down into the valley of Whistler.
The sun finally came out.
And Kerstin came out as well, preparing breakfast in front of the tent.
We left the camp for a hike.
View back to the camp over the lake.
It got pretty warm, at least some signs of summer.
We wanted to go up to Weart Mountain. Seppel crossing a snow field.
Weart Mountain
Seppel standing on the ridge of Weart Mountain, Weart Glacier in the back.
Thick clouds moved in. In the back you can see Wedge Mountain.
It started to snow and so we turned around only a few hundred meters below the top.
Once we were half way down the sun came out again, too bad that we turned around but it looked pretty dark.
We enjoyed the sun and had a break
All the snow was gone, looks totally different now.
Back at the camp we relaxed in the sun and watched the sunset.
