Mexico Part II: Guadalajara
We left the west coast to go to Guadalajara where Alan is from. We had to catch the bus for 6 hours but I think it was the most comfortable 6 hours of traveling, massive leg space since there were only 3 seats per row.
At the bus station.
Driving through the country site.
A different way of transportation.
A different way of placing reinforcement.
A different type of food, really good, chicken in avocado sauce.
We caught up with Hena and Gero.
The next day we went to the wedding, Mirva seems excited, well, it is the second wedding :-).
Alan and Mirva
Kerstin and Mirva
We went to an Hacienda for the wedding party.
Some great entertainment.
Luna, Alan and Mirva.
Gero, Julia (Kerstin used to play badminton with her 15 years ago and met her at the wedding, how random), Kerstin and Hena.
Mirva and her mother.
Some more entertainment.
Mirva and Alan had to play a game to win some presents.
Kerstin got a big mexican hat.
The next day we went around town and saw this truck driving by, almost like Oppel.
Alan's family organized a Christmas Party, it was really interesting to see some typical mexican culture.
Well, this one not too typical mexican, more north american.
I think there were about 50 - 80 people at the party. They celebrated christmas and carried the crib with the jesus kid to the font gate where other people were waiting. This included a lot of singing.
Later on there was some action going on. Puppets hang on a cord and kids beat it with a wooden bat. They beat so long on the puppet until it broke. This way people can get rid of their sins. Once the puppet is broken a lot of candies come out of it which is nice for the kids.
Give 'er!
Once the puppet breaks everybody runs after the candies.
And then it was Alan's turn. His eyes were covered so. It didn't make it easier that the thing was hanging on a cord which can be moved up and down, great fun to watch :-).
Later on a local church youth group performed an amazing play. Even so I didn't understand a word I understood the story.
The next day Gero and Hena showed me around town. I have been in GDL about 10 years ago but couldn't remember much. Kerstin didn't feel well.so she stayed in the hotel.
One of the plazas in GDL.
Inside the opera house.
This sculptures are actually made of corrugated cardboard.
More of the city.
There is a lot of art.
Gero
A painting in the city hall, pretty interesting.
