Tramping at Arthur's Pass - Waimakariri Taipo Traverse
Almost 3 weeks were over and my sister was planning to fly out of Christchurch soon so we decided to drive across the Southern Alps via Arthur's Pass to get to Christchurch. Since we still had a bit time left we went on a 4 day hike at Arthur's Pass. I opened up the Lonely Planet Hiking Book and found this 4 day tramp. I thought if it is in the Lonely Planet it can't be too hard. I guess I was a bit wrong with my guess because it was pretty full on.
The Waimakariri River Delta, that's where the hike started.
It is amazing how wide those valleys are.
Some lost trampers ...
Again, I had a hard time to keep up with the girls train.
This hut was destroyed by an earthquake, not the recent one so in September.
The weather wasn't too bad even so there were some big black clouds.
River crossing, part of the New Zealand tramping experience. Good that I remembered to bring sandals.

We started at around 4 pm, quite late so it got a bit dark at the end.
Getting close to the Carrington Hut, not much day light left at around 9pm.
next day, hiking (or should I say climbing) over Harman Pass ...
