Hiking - or should I say climbing - over Harman Pass
Even so it rained all night long the weather was perfect the next morning. There wasn't much of a trail from Carrington Hut on. Can you see that little thing suspended above the river? I guess it is hard to spot if you don't know what you look for.
What is Kerstin doing here, manual labour?
A cableway. Rivers can get pretty high in New Zealand so instead of a bridge the DOC (Department of Conservation) puts in cableways. Good fun.
It is quite high.
From the cableway on there was pretty much no trail, just big rock boulders in a dry river bed.
We found our way through.
As I said, a bit of climbing was also involved.
There was still quite a bit of snow at Harman Pass.
Amazing waterfalls came down on the left and on the right.
We reached Harman Pass, well, from now on only down, at least that's what we thought.
More river crossings. That was always fun.
Lost? Not really, there is only one way to go, downhill. There wasn't a trail so.
Kerstin manoeuvring around the rocks.
Sometimes we also got stuck in the bush.
After about 9.5 hours we reached the bridge just before Julia Hut, quite the relieve.
No, we didn't want to find gold. There are natural hot springs close to the hut so we went for a walk at night.
And we went for a bath, pretty good after a long day of hiking.
