Glacier Time: Chancellor Hut to Pioneer Hut
We kind of got up early but not early enough as we learned later on ...
Hmmmmm, which way to go?
We found a way.
We had to climb another 1000 meters in elevation. The clouds didn't help much in terms of temperature, it was bloody hot. It also probably doesn't make you as much aware of the sun and its effects on you. The going got pretty slow since we sunk in the snow, which was on top of the ice, with each step about 15 cm. It was like boot packing. Further more the glacier formed a bowl so the sun is intensified and you feel like sitting in the middle of a parabolic mirror. It was probably around 20 degrees but felt like 30.
Kerstin having a rest.
The last few meters to the hut. Can you see the hut at the cliff?
Kerstin having a well earned rest on the bench.
Later at night we could see the ocean from the hut, pretty cool to look down 2200 meters.
Next day - Pioneer Hut to Centential Hut
