Pionieer Hut to Centennial Hut
We learned from yesterday and got up at around 6, on the ice by 7.
That's where we came up from the day before.
The ice / snow was frozen for most of the time so we could travel fast, it makes a huge difference.
View back with Mount Tasman, the second highest peak in NZ with 3400 m, and Pioneer Ridge where the hut sits on.
Going up to the col.
Saying goodbye to Fox Glacier for now.
Once we reached the col we had a breakfast break.
The view down to Franz Josef Glacier.
Heading down to go to the Centennial Hut.
Again, we started too late and the snow got pretty soft.
The hut sits on the ridge.
pretty exposed
That's what sun does to you. We got to the hut by 10:30 am and it was already too soft and too warm.
Kerstin enjoying a soup and something to eat. There is nothing better than a salty soup on a hot day after hours of sweating.
That's where we came from, the col in the middle of the picture. Our tracks are visible.
Not only the hut is exposed, also the outhouse is. Doesn't make you wanne go there if you are afraid of heights like me.
