Centential Hut to Chancellor Hut

We were looking forward to go back to the first hut. Since we got burned yesterday we started really early this time, got up at 4 and were on the ice around 5. We wouldn't go the same way we came so we need good weather for navigation. We were pretty lucky and had amazing weather again.

Early in the morning at the hut.

The sun isn't out yet but the moon is bright.

The first sun rays hit the ground.

Amazing morning.

We came over the col on the left.

Going down the next col was a bit steep and there was a huge crevasse at the bottom so we put some anchors in.

Looking down towards ... Glacier.

a

That's where we came from, pretty steep looking back.

a

Not too sure if we would have gone up there the other way but it always looks steeper from far away.

Back on Fox Glacier, Mt. Tasman in the back.

The last few meters on the ice.

We were getting pretty tired towards the end.

Off the glacier, pretty happy about this.

We put all the ice gear back onto our back pack and started to hike down. Each day the packs got lighter but today they got quite significantly heavier.

Later on we called / radioed the heli company to arrange a pick up for tomorrow. All the alpine huts are equipped with a radio, quite handy.

For the rest of the day we enjoyed the mountains and didn't do much other than reading, eating and enjoying the view.

The Chancellor Hut is a historic hut from 1931. It is probably the nicest hut I have been to.
